Collaboration is the Bomb!

Two new great opportunities to expand your knowledge of not only the Vernon but the Canal District as well.  The new WorcesterWeb.com Advantage Card is a cool way of getting discounts at dozens of locations in the Canal District and beyond.  When you see the correct symbol in the neighborhood you're frequenting, you can take a picture with your smartphone with a free and easily downloadable app.  The app will then direct you to a webpage where you can check out the weekly specials and discounts exclusive to the WorcesterWeb.com Advantage Card.  Click on the card image to find out more.  (Trust me, I didn't say it that well)
Also on the up and up is 3stoodios.com coverage of the Kelley Square and Canal District nightlife.  They've got some great mp3s of interviews with people living it up in Worcester, MA.

Check out www.3stoodios.com to see what else they have to offer.www.worcesterweb.com

Is it getting hot in here?

When I asked someone what Burlesque is, they simply said: "I'll tell you when you are older."  I can't speak for anyone else but ever since I turned 13 or so I knew that meant it would be something to see.  It seems to me like there is no reason not to see... well, if you are a nun or a priest I hope that's a good enough reason... at the very least I think it should be fun.  But would it be worth the $8 a seat/stand or $60.00 for a booth?  Keep reading...

So then I went on the internet and googled "Burlesque" (with moderate "safesearch" on).  Thank God for google because I feel like I now have a better understanding.  Burlesque is, as far as I can tell, a comedic sort of performance with musical accompaniment... the catch? Beautiful women and scant apparel.

I must apologize at this point in the conversation, sorry Leonardo, Michelangelo, Degas, Berlioz, Van Gogh, Mozart, Beethoven, Hemingway, John Lennon and Bill Clinton (all artists or musicians or writers of some kind) but I am convinced.  Burlesque is already, in my mind the pinnacle of all artforms.  I've played Jazz, Classical, Rock, Funk, Ska trombone for ten years and I'm sorry to say that this may be my new greatest infatuation.  I cannot wait for Saturday!  I might even want to write stageplays for this troupe if I find it to be all that I am dreaming.

Comedy... Check!  Music... Check!  Beer/OtherAlcoholicBeverages... Check!  And the beautiful women?  Well... Check! Czech! Check! Czech-Republic-and-a-Rushin'-Belorussian-Check!

Wednesday Open Mic with LBK and KSC

Hey all,

Something which seems to have previously been a secret is now being brought to the light.  I had heard of the Hotel Vernon open mic some time ago but had never been to it.  Well, history became legend.  Legend became myth and for two and a half thousand years... only slightly exaggerated... until I saw the poster on the wall in the Vernon itself on a Wednesday at 10pm when the open mic should have started at 9pm.

Now the Wednesday open mic is back.  Every Wednesday starting at nine o'clock, LBK and KSC will be hosting the Hotel Vernon Musical & Otherwise open mic in the ship room.

You might be wondering who LBK and KSC are.  If you show up you won't be wondering anymore.  Try Luke Bradford (the)K (to the)N (to the) O(to the) WLES.  And KSC... Kentucky Stirfry Chicken?  Hell no... Kelley Square Carl.

So if you're looking for an alternative to Wednesday night karaoke at any random dive... then head down to the HV, the Hotel Vernon, the Dive that's Alive!

Tonight at the Hotel Vernon Ship Room, September 25th never sounded this good.  The Numbskulls take the stage as a part of their 10 year anniversary celebration.  Don't tell anybody but I think I remember them celebrating this several times in 2010.  Nonetheless, it seems like they have a good line up.  Only time will tell but I'll bet you that it won't just be good, it will be Numbskulls-good.  Here's the lineup with links to their facebook groups and myspace pages.
